Sound Designer

Richard worked for several years in English regional theatres before moving to London’s West End with Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers in 1983. Subsequently he mixed many shows before opening the original production of The Phantom of the Opera in 1986 and then became the associate sound designer in Vienna and subsequent productions around the world. Several other productions as associate sound designer include Starlight Express in Japan and Australia, and eight productions of Queen’s We Will Rock You. Richard's sound designs include Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in London and Stuttgart and The Producers in Copenhagen.


Richard still enjoys engineering concerts and special events such as the Millennium Dome Opening Ceremony, Concert for Diana at Wembley Stadium, Falklands 25th Anniversary Celebration, the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms in the Park, St Pancras Eurostar Opening, the Classical Brits Awards and the Queen’s Jubilee Concerts at Buckingham Palace.

Major musical events include
Raymond Gubbay’s annual opera season in London’s Royal Albert Hall as well as concerts at Leeds Castle, Liverpool Pier Head and Henley Festival. Other projects include the Nelson Mandela ‘46664’ Concert in Cape Town, The MTV Tsunami Benefit Concert in Bangkok, a tour of the Far East with Croatian pianist ‘Maxim’, UK tours of Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds, the DIFC Show in Dubai, Alexandria Library’s 5th Birthday celebrations and concerts by Vanessa Mae.

His work outside the world of theatre and classical music also includes sound design for commercial presentations.
