PETER HIGTON
Lighting Designer
Formerly Resident Lighting Designer at the Chester
Gateway Theatre Peter now works in an entirely freelance capacity
both as a Lighting Designer and as a Lecturer in Theatre Lighting
Design.
Recent work includes: James and the Giant Peach,
Citizens Theatre, Glasow; Kaos Theatre Company’s
interpretation of Richard III, (National Tour);
Alice Through the Looking Glass, Mother
Goose and Cinderella for London Bubble
Theatre Co; Woyzeck and Pericles
for Cardboard Citizens Theatre Company, the latter being a site
specific co-production with the RSC performed in a disused
supermarket distribution warehouse off the Old Kent Road;
Exit Allen, for the International Festival of
Musical Theatre, Cardiff; David Copperfield and
East Anglian Psychos for Eastern Angles Theatre
Company.
During his residency at the Gateway Theatre Peter lit over forty
productions including the award winning productions of
Macbeth and Torch Song Trilogy
and premières of Wuthering Heights,
Strangers on a Train, Vertigo,
Crush, Girls’ Night Out,
Taking Liberties, Heart and Soul
and All at Sea.
Peter’s freelance credits also include Steven Berkoff’s
Coriolanus at the Mermaid Theatre in London;
Dishonorable Ladies, Honor Blackman’s
one-woman show at the Criterion Theatre; The Wars of the
Roses (Henry VI and Richard III), Twelfth
Night, Tom Jones, Moll
Flanders, Habeas Corpus, Up
‘n’ Under and Frankenstein,
at the Theatre Royal, York.
Peter’s work has toured nationally with
Confusions, Girls’ Night
Out, Three Steps to Heaven, for Paul
Farrah Productions and the highly acclaimed Cat on a Hot
Tin Roof for Moon River Productions.
Peter is an Associate Lecturer on
the B.A.(hons) Design for Performance course at Central Saint
Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts,
London.
