Charlie Cridlan
Charlie is a set & costume designer with a passion for transforming space and using clothes to tell stories. With 20 years’ experience working in theatre (West End, Bristol Old Vic & national touring), opera (Barbican & British Youth Opera) and TV (Channel 4 & BBC), Charlie is an imaginative set & costume designer. She has a flair for creating vivid, animated sets bringing a vibrant, illustrative quality to her work.
Recent theatre designs include: THEM (Body Politic); Jacaranda (Pentabus); Herstory (Arch468); Titania's Dream (Kilburn Live UK); (Christmas at the (Snow) Globe (Shakespeare's Globe); We Are Arrested (RSC & Arcola Theatre); Day of the Living (RSC); Merry Wives of Windsor (Shakespeare's Globe). Peril at Sea (Up the Rd Theatre).
Opera designs include: The Pearl Fishers, La Boheme, Carmen and new commissions Jago, by Mike and Kate Westbrook, and Eleanor Vale, by John Barber (Wedmore Opera); The Magic Flute (Peacock Theatre); Wagner Dream (Barbican Hall).
Past production designs include: Mr Stink (Kenny Wax & Nick Brook, (West End & national tour), Shore (Riverside Hammersmith); Brixton Stories (Lyric Hammersmith). Touring productions include: Lights Out Land Girls & Eddie & the Gold Tops (Bad Apple Theatre); Parkway Dreams, Getting Here & Cuckoo Teapot (Eastern Angles); Fury & Detroit (GSMSD); Caravan (Alias LDN), Da Native & Orator (Far from the Norm); Umbra, (Dance Adventures); Zones & Zero For the Young Dudes (Shell Connections at Soho Theatre); Imogen (National tour); Grimm's Tales & The Labyrinth (Oval House); Woody Allen's Murder Mysteries (Warehouse Theatre); Christmas Claytime (Indefinite Articles, Discover Children's Centre).
Site-specific productions include: Fanta; Twisted Carnival (Fanta/The Mill tour); Uncle Vanya (Wilton's Music Hall); Top Dog Live! (The Roundhouse); The Oresteia Trilogy, Don Juan, Toad of Toad Hall, Around the World in 80 Days and The Mother (Scoop @ More London); Streets (Theatre Royal Stratford East, Roof East & Stratford Circus). Charlie created By-the-Bed Pantomimes with Tarek Merchant (St George's Hospital).
Charlie thinks in precise detail about the performance environment and its effect on audiences, leading her to create dynamic, unusual environments for companies in the Corporate & Heritage sectors. She has created memorable, thought-provoking backdrops for events, workshops, dinners, photo shoots& launches. Charlie has designed environments for Wavelength Connect Ltd events since its conception in 2010 and her designs have become a key part of the Wavelength Connect brand image.

At Vaults Festival: Orator (Far from The Norm), received Pick of the Week Award 2017, Caravan Alias LDN received Audience Choice Award 2018.
Charlie received OFFIE nominations for Best Design; Once Upon A Time at the Adelphi & Liar's Market. Fanta; Twisted Carnival featured Charlie’s costumes, received GOLD Award: 'Best immersive' Kinsale Shark Awards.
Her design for La Boheme featured in SBTD Exhibition: Transformation & Revelation UK Design for Performance (V&A Museum throughout 2012)
Charlie’s designs feature in publications: Time Space, 2D/3D & Make Believe, (SBTD) & Eleanor Vale, an Opera for Somerset (Geoff Dunlop).
